On Sunday, November 3rd, 75 people came together to participate in Step Together: A Community Walk to Fill the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry, sponsored by First Parish Congregational Church UCC. It was an enormous success. More than 535 pounds of food and $400 were donated. The pantry shelves are filled with sought-after food goods once again!
Perhaps just as important, however, was the energy created by this event. Young and old, boy scouts and parishioners, friends and strangers (now friends), volunteers and people hoping to get involved, all joined in. They brought food and financial support to donate to the pantry, then walked down Main Street in conversation. Many joined in after the walk to help sort and shelve the food in the pantry for future distribution. Everyone smiled, and agreed that it was one of those moments that just felt really good!
Here’s a glimpse into what 535 lbs of food looks like, and some behind the scenes views of volunteers checking expiration dates and sorting food.
Throughout the year, community groups throughout Yarmouth generously help to donate to the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry. From church dinners to restaurants, like Gather – offering a percentage of sales from Wednesdays – the food pantry and YCAN both benefit.
