The Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce held their annual Boast N Toast fundraiser earlier this month. The event included both a silent and live auction to raise funds for the chamber’s programming and scholarships, along with funding for Yarmouth Cares About Neighbors (YCAN) and the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry. The lively event exceeded the goal for fundraising, which allowed the chamber to donate $1000 for YCAN programs and another $1000 specifically for the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry. Checks were delivered today by Betsy Peixotto, Yarmouth Chamber’s Assistant Community Events Director, to Clyde Hodgkin, President of YCAN, and Liz Reinsborough, a member of the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry Steering Committee.
“We wanted to offer donations to a number of programs that help the Yarmouth community,” said Betsy when the small group gathered at the Yarmouth Town Hall to receive checks. “Then we realized that many programs, like the Fuel Assistance Program and the food pantry, fall under YCAN, we were happy to be able to offer a check to non-profit organizations that help the entire community in so many ways,” she added.
Many people don’t realize that a number of important programs supporting the Yarmouth community fall under the YCAN umbrella. YCAN’s seven primary programs include:
- Yarmouth Community Food Pantry
- Project Holiday
- Yarmouth Fuel Assistance Program
- The Rides Program
- Aging In Place
- Operation Bundle Up (in conjunction with Yarmouth Community Services)
- Emergency Acute Needs Program
- The Grant Program
Additional programs supported by YCAN are the School Nutrition Closet, Summer Camp vouchers for kids and teens, Lunch Crunch, Food Insecurity Supplemental Fund, and more.
YCAN is one overarching non-profit organization fulfilling needs and collaborating with other groups within the Yarmouth Community to lend support.
The Yarmouth Chamber’s donations will help all of YCAN’s programs. Hats off to the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce for their very generous donation.
