Tis the season for food drives in Yarmouth. We are so grateful to businesses throughout the community planning to collect food for distribution throughout the holiday season. With the news of SNAP benefits being paused, the need is greater than ever to serve those who need a little help in the Yarmouth community.
We’ve been contacted by a number of Yarmouth businesses and groups asking about hosting food drives. Here are details of the food drives we know about to date.
November 1-15: Comfort Food Drive at Attic and Eves
As part of their Winter Wonderland, Attic and Eves on Main Street will be collecting comfort food for the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry, November 1-15. pantry. Think anything from tea, coffee, and hot chocolate to cider, hot cereals, stews and soups. What kind of food brings you comfort? Whatever you like will qualify! Donors qualify for raffle prizes.
November 9: “Meet Your Neighbors” Walk Down Main Street, hosted by First Parish Church
Meet at First Parish Church (116 Main Street) at 8:30am on November 9th to gather for a walk down Main Street. One goal of the event is to raise food and funds for the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry, however, the second goal is to build community and meet neighbors as the group walks together down the street. Afterward, gather for treats and cider back at First Parish Church. Please bring a food item(s) to give to the food pantry for sharing with the community.
November 20: Community Acupuncture Event & Food Drive at Yarmouth Acupuncture, 3-5pm
Bring a food item for the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry and/or a donation for YCAN and enjoy a community acupuncture from 3:00-5:00pm at Yarmouth Accupuncture, 40 Forest Falls Drive. All proceeds will be donated to Yarmouth Cares About Neighbors (YCAN) and the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry.
November 20: Sacred Heart Catholic Church Thanksgiving Collection
The Yarmouth Community Food Pantry will receive food collected by Sacred Heart on November 20.
Throughout November: Neighborhood Food Drives
The Yarmouth Community Food Pantry is working with neighborhoods throughout Yarmouth to donate food items for their Thanksgiving Food Baskets this year. Each neighborhood is assigned a specific item to collect for the baskets. If you’re not already participating but are interested in your neighborhood taking part in these food collections, please assign a neighborhood rep and call the Yarmouth Food Pantry at (207)844-3320 .
Are you hosting a food drive we don’t yet know about? Please let us know by calling us at 207-844-3320 or messaging us on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Yarmouth-Maine-Community-Food-Pantry.
If you’re unable to make it to one of these food drives, food donations are accepted 24/7 at First Parish Church. Please place all donations in the deck box located at the back of the church (facing Storer Dr). Donations are collected daily. We accept all food that is unopened and not expired, personal items like feminine products, shampoo, conditioner and body wash/soap, cleaning supplies, and diapers. Please note we are unable to accept household items (like books, pots and pans) homemade foods, or anything that needs refrigeration in this deck box.
Huge thanks to all who’ve organized food drives and/or donated food to help those visiting the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry in November. We certainly appreciate all the help!
