The Yarmouth Community Food Pantry is dedicated to cleaning up Yarmouth this spring. Well, kinda. We’re hoping to be able to provide a pail filled with sponges, bathroom and floor cleaners, disinfectant sprays, paper towels and more to every family visiting the Food Pantry in April (one per family). We’re asking friends of the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry to become “Pail Pals” to help us reach our goal of creating 70 spring cleaning pails for Yarmouth families who visit the pantry.
To make the spring cleaning campaign happen, the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry is seeking donations of a number of Yarmouthdifferent kinds of cleaning supplies. We’re hoping that the following items might be donated throughout the month of March:
- Spray cleaners (like Lysol, Clorox, Fantastic or other brands)
- Floor cleaners (like Pine Sol, Mr Clean or store brands)
- Bathroom and tile cleaners (like Scrubbing Bubbles)
- Disinfectant spray (like Lysol)
- Windex or other glass cleaners
- Sponges of all sizes
- Paper towels
- Baking Soda and WHITE vinegar (please not other brands of vinegar)
As always, all donations may be left in the deck box outside the door to the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry, located in the rear of First Parish Church at 116 Main Street in Yarmouth. The Pantry door faces Storer St and there’s ample parking behind the church (again right off Storer St), closest to the pantry’s door.
According to Mental Health America, “Keeping your living space clean is shown to promote calmness and a sense of control over your day-to-day life.” And Doylestown Health tells us “Who knew that when our parents asked us to clean our room it was not just for collective peace of mind, but that a clean living space actually has real, lasting health benefits? It’s true. A clean home can actually keep you and your family healthy in a variety of ways.” The article goes on to explain that a clean home can alleviate stress, curb allergens and asthma, clear the mind and improve sleep. These are all aspects that every person will benefit from. However, lower income people sometimes find themselves unable to purchase cleaning supplies, opting to spend precious dollars on food instead. With your help, providing these supplies to 70 income challenged families will offer enough cleaning supplies to refresh with a major spring cleaning.
Thank you in advance to our Pail Pals who help provide not only a way to clean up this spring, but also a huge mental lift for families facing income challenges in Yarmouth. It takes a village to clean a village, and we certainly are grateful for all our village does to provide for those in need.
